About the collection
Close company, separate identities
East Cobb Med Spa is the name of these essays. The neighbourhood is an idea to think with.
Purpose of the name
East Cobb Med Spa is a reading site, not a business or an operating med spa. Published research supplies the arguments; easy conclusions draw my objections. There are no appointments, prescriptions or medicines available through this site. I have no role in anyone’s medical care. The geographic name supplies an image of neighbours, not a claim about a local service.
Resemblance is the puzzle. A related peptide deserves an experimental record of its own; borrowing a neighbour’s reputation seems a poor bargain to me. I am particularly fond of a comparison that makes a broad claim harder to repeat. The attraction of a neighbourhood is that proximity makes small differences visible. KPV, its parent hormone and its related experimental preparations can sit beside one another here without their identities dissolving. The neighbourhood has room for disagreement. If two results sit awkwardly together, smoothing them into a single reputation would defeat the reason for putting them beside one another.
My irritation begins when an experimental name disappears from the retelling. The molecule, the cells and the model are part of what happened. Losing them makes the story easier to pass along and harder to understand. That seems an unnecessary loss when the papers themselves are so much more interesting.
The limit of an essay
These essays are not medical advice. Symptom assessment, treatment choice and decisions about an individual’s suitability are outside the scope of these essays. A clinician who knows the person’s circumstances has a different task from the one undertaken here.
The source list is available for anyone who wants to pursue the experiments. Contact states the present limits of correspondence.
